Standard Media Group journalist Shadrack Mitty passed away on Tuesday night, just past midnight, at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital where he had been receiving treatment. 

Mitty had been battling a blood disease for an undisclosed period before his untimely death.

Mitty was a seasoned educational reporter known for covering significant events, such as the transition from the 8-4-4 curriculum to the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

His passing has elicited condolences from the media fraternity and education stakeholders, with colleagues at the Standard Group expressing their grief.

Standard Group Broadcast Deputy Editor Ken Mijungu remembered Mitty for his "unquestionable dedication and unrivalled professionalism.

" Mijungu described him as a "friendly team member whose contacts in the education sector made all the difference in our work. He was a good man, a perfect gentleman."

Former journalist Philip Etale shared his sorrow, stating, "Waking up to the sad news of the passing of my friend and colleague in journalism Shadrack Mitty. 

This was one journalist who loved his job. He was dedicated and never shied from asking as many questions as possible to understand the story for informed dissemination to the masses. The media industry has lost a good man."

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) also mourned Mitty, stating, "It is with deep sorrow that we have learnt of the death of Shadrack Mitty of KTN News. 

Mitty was a talented reporter who always produced balanced, informative stories on education matters."

Mitty previously served at QTV for five years, from 2012 to 2016, before joining the Standard Group.
