On Friday, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti announced the distribution of "Maziwa ya Mama" milk to all Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centers in Machakos.

The program, launched to provide essential nutritional milk to children in all 40 Wards of Machakos County, will take place every Monday and Friday.

Governor Wavinya highlighted that, in addition to addressing nutritional needs, the initiative aims to enhance school attendance by serving as an incentive for children to remain in school.

She emphasized the county's commitment to supporting both the agricultural sector and the educational well-being of the young population.

Excited about the successful distribution in the first week, Wavinya expressed joy at the positive impact on the children's learning experience, pledging to protect and sustain this initiative.

The program is designed to complement the existing free preschool feeding program in all public ECDE centers. Governor Wavinya drew parallels to the historical "maziwa ya nyayo" and emphasized the positive effects on school retention and prevention of malnutrition, particularly in arid and semi-arid areas.

The preschool feeding program, named 'Chakula Tumboni, Masomo Kichwani,' received a Sh 30 million allocation last year, intended to support over 1160 public ECDEs and feed 35,000 school children in all 40 wards.

The feeding policy was officially passed by the Machakos County Government, ensuring funds are allocated to sustain the feeding program.
