A 42-year-old resident of Kerugoya in Kirinyaga is in police custody following allegations of fatally assaulting his 30-year-old wife. 

James Muriithi Mugo, the suspect, reportedly attacked his wife, Peninah Wambui Mugo, during a heated argument on Saturday, as stated by Kirinyaga Central sub-county police commander John Torori.

Neighbors reported hearing a disturbance and, upon investigation, discovered that Peninah had sustained a stab wound to her neck during the altercation. 

Resident Richard Kibuti expressed shock at the incident, noting that the suspect was a familiar figure in Kerugoya town.

The police commander confirmed the arrest of the suspect, revealing that he had recently been released after being apprehended for selling marijuana in Kerugoya. 

The lifeless body of Peninah has been transported to the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination. 

The tragic incident has left the community in disbelief, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the alleged domestic dispute.
