The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has set a robust goal of registering no less than 350,000 members in Homa Bay County in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general election.

This ambitious initiative is part of the party's strategy to challenge the longstanding dominance of the ODM in the region.

Notable party leaders, including former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Martin Ogindo, chairman for Fish Marketing Authority, and Odoyo Owidi, chairman at Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency (LVSWWDA), spearheaded a recruitment drive in Ndhiwa constituency, successfully registering over 700 individuals.

Kidero took the opportunity to call upon members of the Luo community, a traditionally strong support base for ODM leader Raila Odinga, to reconsider their political allegiance and approach the 2027 politics with a fresh perspective.

He advocated for a change in strategy, encouraging support for President William Ruto, stating, "Most members of the Luo community have supported Raila and ODM, but they have never gotten the presidency.

It is high time we changed the strategy and support President William Ruto to enable us to get where we want."

Highlighting the importance of political engagement, Kidero claimed that previous political dynamics in Luo Nyanza counties had led to inadequate service delivery.

Acting Homa Bay UDA chairman Kennedy Obuya, former Kibiri MCA Kennedy Ondiek, and Dave Kalo, a board member at Lake Basin Development Agency (LBDA), also participated in the recruitment drive.

Ogindo emphasized the party's commitment to strengthening UDA by mobilizing residents and transforming the economic landscape of Nyanza.

He identified a historical lack of development in the region due to a failure to collaborate with the government, expressing the party's intent to ensure the equitable distribution of UDA positions in Homa Bay County.

Owidi criticized politicians from other parties for allegedly intimidating UDA members and emphasized the importance of fair political competition.

He asserted, "We must all have fair political competition. Our people have been blocked so that some leaders can maintain their seats."

In alignment with the vision for economic development, Obuya, Ondiek, and Kalo encouraged residents to work closely with the government.

They called for a departure from outdated political practices and a collective effort to usher in a new era of democratic engagement and progress in the region.
