Family of Gervais Hakizimana, Coach to Kiptum, Disputes Autopsy Findings
Hakizimana Gervais, the coach who guided world marathoner Kelvin Kiptum, will be laid to rest on Wednesday at the Rusororo Cemetery in Kigali, Rwanda.
His funeral service, which commenced on Tuesday, concludes today with a burial ceremony.
His untimely demise occurred in a tragic road accident along the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road on February 11, 2024, claiming the lives of both Kiptum and an injured female passenger.
An autopsy conducted by pathologist Dr. Benson Macharia determined that Hakizimana died from a head injury. However, his family disputed the findings, pointing out inconsistencies.
"We did not observe any fractures when we saw him. Therefore, we dispute the findings," remarked Sandrine, the niece of the deceased.
Kiptum will be laid to rest at his family home on Friday, following the completion of his family house construction.
