Woman Dies Inside Police Cell In Suspected Death By Suicide

The police in Embu have launched an inquiry into the tragic death of a 24-year-old woman inside a police cell, which they have categorized as suicide.

The deceased, Natasha Ng'endo Maina, a mother of two, was detained at the Karaba police station, located at the Embu-Kirinyaga border, when the incident occurred.

Natasha's alleged suicide has stunned the residents of Kiandegwa village in Mwea, where she was known to live.

Reports indicate that Natasha and her husband, Joseph Maina Ndogo, were apprehended after they were involved in a disturbance at a local bar.

According to Joseph, he and Natasha were detained following a disagreement at the bar, where he confronted her about drinking without his knowledge. The situation escalated, leading to their arrest by the authorities.

Joseph, deeply distraught by his wife's death, suspects foul play and is urging for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her demise. He believes Natasha may have been mistreated while in police custody.

Contrary to Joseph's claims, Mwea Sub-County police commander, Crispinus Ogutu, has denied allegations of any physical abuse, asserting that Natasha's death was a result of suicide, potentially influenced by alcohol intoxication.

Ogutu has announced plans to conduct a postmortem examination on Natasha's body as part of the ongoing investigation to ascertain the cause of her death.
