Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed his condolences to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, as well as to the people of Tanzania and the family of the late 2nd President of the Republic of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi, who passed away on Thursday.

President (Rtd) Kenyatta praised the late former Head of State as a strong leader whose presidency was instrumental in the liberalization of the Tanzanian economy. 

Ali Hassan Mwinyi's tenure was characterized by notable social policies that significantly enhanced education and healthcare systems in Tanzania. 

Moreover, he actively pursued regional cooperation and reconciliation, playing a pivotal role in mediating conflicts within the East African region.

"Hassan Mwinyi is widely recognized as a prominent figure in Tanzanian history, celebrated for his substantial contributions to politics, economic development, and regional diplomacy," stated Kenyatta.

Kenyatta extended his prayers, wishing strength to the family of the late President and offering solace to the people of Tanzania as they mourn this profound loss.

Mwinyi, who served as Tanzania's second president from 1985 to 1995, had been hospitalized in early February for treatment of a chest illness, as confirmed by his family.
