Gov't Orders Residents Of Six Eastlands Estates To Vacate Immediately

The Ministry of Lands has issued a directive to residents of six Government Estates in Nairobi's Eastlands area, urging them to relocate for the redevelopment efforts under the Affordable Housing Program (AHP).

In a notice issued by Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, it was outlined that the affected estates encompass Jogoo Road Phase I & II, Jamaa, Mbotela, Ahero, and Mawenzi Gardens. 

Residents are required to vacate their residences by April 30th, 2024, after settling any outstanding rent, utility bills, and service charges.

The directive emphasizes the government's commitment to implementing the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) as part of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). 

It highlights the intention to revitalize old estates to bolster rental availability, provide affordable housing options for citizens, and generate employment opportunities for the youth.

Residents vacating these estates will receive priority consideration for purchasing or renting homes once the redevelopment is finalized.
