Three Men Who Visited Kelvin Kiptum's Home Before Crash Arrested

Three individuals suspected of visiting the residence of marathon world record-holder Kelvin Kiptum shortly before his tragic road accident have been apprehended.

The trio was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and is currently detained at Iten police station.

Authorities plan to interrogate them extensively as part of the ongoing investigation led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Kiptum, aged 24, was traveling from Kaptagat to Eldoret in the Rift Valley on the night of February 11 when his vehicle swerved off the road, colliding with a tree. Both Kiptum and his coach Gervais Hakizimana lost their lives instantly in the crash.

The renowned athlete gained international recognition after setting a world record time of 2:00:35 in the Chicago Marathon, surpassing Eliud Kipchoge's previous record by 34 seconds.

Remarkably, Kiptum achieved this feat at the age of 23, participating in only his third marathon.

In addition to his groundbreaking achievement in Chicago, Kiptum emerged victorious in his debut race in Valencia in 2022 and subsequently triumphed in London the following year.

His remarkable performances resulted in three of the seven fastest marathon times ever recorded.

The government has pledged to honor Kelvin Kiptum, the world marathon record holder, with a dignified farewell befitting his status as a national hero.
