How Kevin Kang'ethe Pulled Off His Jail Escape: Unraveling the Details

Details surrounding the brazen escape of murder suspect Kevin Kinyanjui Kang'ethe from Muthaiga Police Station in Nairobi have emerged, raising questions about the security protocols in place.

Kang'ethe stands accused of brutally killing his girlfriend at a US airport before fleeing to Kenya. According to a police report, the escape occurred around 5:30 pm on a Wednesday, with the station commander present, yet unaware until hearing a commotion as officers attempted to apprehend Kang'ethe.

The escape was reportedly facilitated by a man named John Maina Ndegwa, who arrived at the station around 4:00 pm claiming to be Kang'ethe's personal lawyer.

Officers complied with Ndegwa's request to speak with Kang'ethe, removing the suspect from his cell and leaving him alone with Ndegwa in a separate room. Kang'ethe took advantage of the situation and fled, leaving Ndegwa behind.

The station commander, Chief Inspector Esther Muchomba, was reportedly engaged in a meeting at the time of the escape and was alerted by the commotion caused by officers attempting to recapture Kang'ethe along Thika Super Highway.

Despite their efforts, Kang'ethe managed to evade re-arrest, raising questions about how he outmaneuvered armed officers in broad daylight.

Following the escape, four police officers on duty, including Elijah Kipkiror, James Maina, Ann Wanjiku, and Hassan Saman, were arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation.

Additionally, the advocate, John Maina Ndegwa, allegedly involved in facilitating the escape, has also been taken into police custody.

Kang'ethe's case has garnered significant attention due to the severity of the charges against him. He is accused of killing a 31-year-old Kenyan-born woman in Whitman, Massachusetts, with her body discovered inside a vehicle at Boston's Logan Airport in November of the previous year.

Since his arrest in Nairobi, detectives have sought permission to detain Kang'ethe for 30 days pending a determination on whether he will be extradited to the US to face murder charges.
