Quiver, Kettle House Among Six Nairobi Clubs Set For Gov't Inspection

The government, represented by the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA), is slated to carry out inspections at several key entertainment venues across Nairobi County on Thursday. 

PSRA Director General Fazul Mahamed issued a notice on Wednesday detailing the purpose of the inspections, which primarily focus on ensuring compliance with security regulations regarding the licensing of security personnel. 

The objective is to verify that security guards employed by these establishments have received mandatory training, possess valid licenses, and hold Guard Force Numbers (GFNs) as mandated by law.

Starting from 8am on the designated day, PSRA officials will scrutinize a list of clubs, including Kettle House, Milan, Black Samurai, Oyster Bay, Embassy Bistrol, and Quiver Lounge Kitengela. 

Mahamed underscored the importance of these checks in maintaining the integrity of security services within entertainment venues. 

The inspections serve as a means of enforcing regulations and upholding standards for the safety and security of patrons and staff alike.

Mahamed emphasized that these efforts signify PSRA's unwavering commitment to continuous oversight and enforcement measures within the private security sector. 

This dedication stems from the authority's responsibility to safeguard public interests and ensure adherence to established protocols. 

The inspections follow a recent incident at Kettle House bar, where ten bouncers were apprehended and charged for allegedly assaulting journalists and NACADA officers, highlighting the need for heightened scrutiny.

The initiative aligns with PSRA's broader strategy, which includes the introduction of Guard Force Numbers (GFNs) for private security officers. 

Mahamed introduced GFNs late last year, citing their role in improving oversight and coordination within the industry. 

These unique identifiers serve to facilitate public recognition of licensed security personnel and aid the government in monitoring and regulating the sector effectively.
