Body Of Kiptum's Coach Gervais Hakizimana Flown To Rwanda For Burial

Gervais Hakizimana, coach of the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum, has been repatriated to Rwanda for his impending funeral.

Video footage captured the hearse carrying Hakizimana's body from Eldoret Hospital, where it had been held since his passing a week earlier. His family had arrived in Kenya beforehand to organize the transfer.

Hakizimana and Kiptum tragically lost their lives in a road accident on February 11, 2023.

Police reports indicate the crash occurred around 11 pm in the Kaptagat area along the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road, resulting in their immediate demise.

Despite an autopsy report attributing Hakizimana's death to a head injury, consistent with the police report, his family rejected the findings.

They argue that the nature and extent of his injuries do not match the initial assessment after the tragedy.

The family, led by Hakizimana's niece Sandrine, called for a government investigation into his death.

Meanwhile, Kiptum's funeral is scheduled for February 24, 2024, at the family home in Kaptagat.
