The prime suspects implicated in the killing of Benjamin Kiplagat, a Ugandan athlete of Kenyan origin, are now slated to remain in police custody for a period of 21 days.

This decision was reached to facilitate the completion of the ongoing investigation into the murder.

Magistrate Cherono Kese of the Eldoret court granted the police request to detain the suspects, namely David Ekhai Lokere, also known as Timo, and Peter Ushuru Khalumi. The ruling took place during their appearance before the magistrate on Tuesday.

The investigating officer, Inyasio Mwaniki, appealed to the court for an extension, citing the pending post-mortem examination required to determine the cause of Kiplagat's death.

Mwaniki also highlighted that crucial information regarding the vehicle in which the athlete's body was discovered and the motorcycle used by the suspects is yet to be obtained from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
