EAWiBP and GIZ Work Together to Train Women-Led SMEs

Female entrepreneurs have been encouraged to leverage the potential offered by the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement. 

This advice was imparted during a workshop designed to educate women entrepreneurs in the country. The event, organized by the East African Women in Business Platform (EAWiBP) in collaboration with GIZ East Africa, aimed to enhance the performance of women-owned enterprises in the region.

The workshop had a dual focus: raising awareness among women entrepreneurs about the AfCFTA's trade protocols and fostering innovation for unprecedented growth, as expressed by EAWiBP Chairperson Elizabeth Thande.

Ms. Thande emphasized the importance of creating awareness, stating, 'Many are familiar with the concept of the African trade area, but there are numerous aspects we need to understand before engaging in trade, such as logistics, trade-related policies, and all the requirements to capitalize on the opportunities fully.'

Underlining the need for collaborative efforts, EAWiBP's Janice Kimaro described the workshop as a testament to a shared commitment to empowering women in trade under the AfCFTA

This collaboration seeks to open avenues for growth, learning, and strategic planning, shaping women-led businesses in the region.

Ruth Ndegwa, CEO of Mirco Foods, highlighted the workshop as a valuable platform for women to network with like-minded partners and acquire diverse skills. She expressed, 'This is an opportunity, especially for women, to connect with similar partners and gain various skills.
