Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer and two civilians for the theft of a firearm from a licensed firearm holder in Kirinyaga County.

The arrested individuals include 54-year-old William Kabuu Wageni, affiliated with KDF Kahawa Garrison, 25-year-old Salome Kimani, and Benson Wanjau Wakiai.

The joint operations team from DCI Juja and DCI Headquarters executed the arrest at Windridge, Chai Estate in Juja on November 25, 2023.

The DCI reported that the incident unfolded when a 56-year-old victim, stranded in his Toyota Prado along a murram road in Kirinyaga County’s Kianda area, received public assistance to free his vehicle. Upon returning home, the victim discovered the theft of his CZ pistol, loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.

The victim attempted to locate the firearm at the scene the same night but was impeded by darkness and muddy conditions due to ongoing rainfall. Subsequent police efforts resulted in the recovery of the weapon the following morning in Juja, Kiambu County.

"He returned to the scene the same night searching for the firearm until 10 pm but could do little to trace anything in the dark and trampled muddy passage from an ongoing downpour.

Efforts to ask around the neighborhood the following morning proved futile until the ardent investigators stepped in, exploring all intelligence leads until the recovery of the firearm in Juja, Kiambu County," stated the DCI.

The trio, along with the recovered firearm, were transported to Wang'uru Police Station in Mwea East, where the loss had been reported.

Ongoing investigations seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the expenditure of six missing rounds of ammunition from the firearm.
