Drama unfolded at a church in Ngurubani, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, when a woman disrupted a wedding ceremony to stop her husband, 58-year-old Chomba Njoka Mutambu, from marrying another woman.

The other woman was none other than the pastor of the church, Regina. Rose Wawira Chomba, accompanied by her five children, stormed the church, asserting that she is the lawful wife of Chomba, having solemnized their marriage in June 2013.

"We went to church to solemnize our marriage according to canonical rules, and it was granted by a Kerugoya parish. I wonder how he is marrying another wife without our knowledge," Wawira stated.

Reverend Chomba was in the process of wedding Pastor Regina, both affiliated with the Vision Beyond Living Gospel Church in Ngurubani.

Wawira and her children's attempts to halt the ceremony faced resistance from security personnel.

"We are wondering why they are coming at this time despite all the opportunities they had to object during preparations," commented Peter Macharia Kamau.

Wawira claimed that Chomba had abandoned their family and had been living with Regina. She accused her estranged husband of attempting to abandon the family and sell their land.

The situation escalated to the point where Wanguru police officers, led by Mwea East OCPD Patrick Nyaanga, had to intervene to maintain peace.

"We were called by a member of the public after an alarm was raised about a fight in the church," the police chief reported.

One of Chomba's children, Lucy Wakuthii, expressed her frustration, accusing her father of abandoning the family.

"My mother has been struggling to take us to school. Now we suspect he wants to marry another woman so they can sell our land and leave us with nothing," she said.

Residents who witnessed the incident were left shocked, describing the scene as shameful.
