The Kenyan entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of Purity Wambui, the wife of veteran actor Matayo Keya, better known by his stage name Alphonse Makacha Makokha. 

The heartbreaking news was shared by Makokha’s colleague and close friend, Ondiek Nyuka Kwota, who described Wambui as a kind and warm-hearted individual whose presence touched many lives.

“Dear friends and fans. It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Purity Wambui, beloved wife of Makokha Makacha, aka ‘Babyface’ of Vioja Mahakamani on KBC Channel 1 TV. She was a remarkable woman who touched many lives with her kindness and warmth,” Ondiek wrote in a heartfelt message.

Ondiek also conveyed Makokha’s gratitude for the overwhelming support and love they have received from fans during this difficult time.

“Makokha and his family are deeply grateful for your love and support during this incredibly difficult time. For those who wish to express their condolences, please feel free to leave your messages below. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your understanding and support,” he added.

Speaking to Kenyan Whispers, a source close to the family revealed that Makokha’s wife had been in hospital for some time. “She passed away on Saturday, June 1, at Kenyatta National Hospital where she had been receiving treatment for some time. Makokha told us that he visited her often despite his rehearsals. We have been praying together for her recovery." The source added that they only got the news yesterday, so no arrangements have been made yet.

Since the announcement, the Kenyan entertainment community has been sending their condolences to Makokha and his family.
