A 19-Year-Old Driver Arrested After Assaulting Police Officer Along Kamiti Road

The incident began when Corporal Jacob Ogendo, a police officer managing traffic at Mirema Junction on Kamiti Road, observed a motor vehicle making an illegal U-turn, obstructing other road users. 

The vehicle hit a road kerb and became stuck, prompting Corporal Ogendo to take action. 

He entered the vehicle from the front passenger seat and instructed the driver to proceed to the police station.

As the vehicle approached the area opposite Quick Mart, the driver unexpectedly stopped and drew a sword from under the seat. 

Sensing danger, Corporal Ogendo quickly exited the vehicle. However, the driver pursued him, attacking him with blows and kicks.

During the struggle, Corporal Ogendo fell into a trench, and the driver seized the officer's police pocket phone battery before fleeing the scene.

The incident left Corporal Ogendo injured, requiring medical treatment. Members of the public who witnessed the attack came to his aid, providing first aid at Crestview Mother and Child Wellness Centre in Kasarani. 

Due to the severity of his injuries, Corporal Ogendo was later referred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.

In a subsequent development, the driver, identified as Njoroge, was flushed out of a house in Jacaranda Estate, where he was reportedly seeking help to move after discovering he was wanted by the authorities. 

Nairobi's head of traffic, Vitalis Otieno, stated that Njoroge will face multiple charges, including attempted murder. The police have also arrested an accomplice, identified as Peter Kiragu.
