According to Stephen Maembe, the woman's uncle, the incident was first noticed by a watchman at the Kainamoi coffee factory, who promptly raised the alarm. 

Maembe recounted the sequence of events, identifying the deceased woman as Moreen Wangui Munene.

The woman's grandfather, Ngombo Kuruma, revealed that she had been engaged in washing clothes before abruptly disappearing with the child, catching her family off guard. 

Fridah Njoki, the grandmother, expressed deep disbelief, recalling Wangui's visit to them prior to the tragic incident. 

Njoki lamented that Wangui resides with her parents in Embu, where her mother serves as a civil servant and her father works as a contractor, making the inexplicable act even more confounding.

Gichugu sub-county Police Commander Johnson Wachira confirmed ongoing efforts by law enforcement and local residents to recover the bodies from the river.

The family has formally reported the matter to the Kiamutugu Police Station, intensifying the collaborative search operation.

Simon Muchira, a resident of the area, highlighted the challenges faced in the search for the bodies, emphasizing the treacherous nature of the river, which complicates the retrieval process and adds to the community's anguish.
