Maseno University Student Arrested for Alleged Robbery and Rape of Two Fellow Students

A 23-year-old student at Maseno University is in custody following his suspected involvement in a violent robbery and the rape of two fellow students. 

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that the student, Jacktone Oluoch Owiti, is accused of committing these heinous acts against students from the same campus on the night of April 14, 2024.

Owiti was arrested in the Chulaimbo area of Maseno, with one of the stolen phones found in his possession.

The victims, two first-year students aged 19 and 20, were attacked in their shared room in the dead of night by two assailants armed with a machete and a dagger.

According to detectives, the assailants kicked the door open and threatened the terrified girls with stabs if they made any noise. 

The intruders then proceeded to assault the victims before fleeing with their smartphones. 

Kisumu West detectives apprehended Owiti on May 15, parading him for identification, conducting DNA sampling, and later arraigning him in court.

Police are actively pursuing other suspects linked to the incident. "New leads to his accomplice(s) have since been obtained, and investigators are hot on their trail," the authorities stated.
