TikTok sensation Roseline Otieno, known as Nyako, has issued a stern warning to Safaricom, Kenya's largest telecommunications company, threatening legal action for allegedly exposing her financial transactions without consent.

Through her legal representatives at Danstan Omari Associates and Advocates, Nyako accuses Safaricom of breaching her privacy rights by making her M-Pesa statements accessible to unauthorized individuals, which subsequently circulated on social media platforms.

In a demand letter, Nyako's lawyers assert that Safaricom allowed the dissemination of her confidential financial details on February 13, 2024, causing her considerable distress and undermining her reputation as a reputable content creator.

The letter demands Safaricom to admit liability for the breach and quantifies damages for the harm caused.

Nyako's legal team emphasized the severity of the breach, citing its infringement on her privacy rights as well as the potential financial risks it exposed her to.

They issued a seven-day ultimatum for Safaricom to provide an explanation for the unauthorized disclosure; failure to comply would result in legal proceedings.

Furthermore, Nyako's advocate criticized Safaricom's handling of sensitive subscriber data, emphasizing the company's responsibility to safeguard such information against unauthorized disclosure and misuse, as mandated by data protection laws.

Nyako's plight extends beyond this recent incident, as she previously expressed frustration over the freezing of her bank accounts by German authorities in February.

She attributed this action to malicious reporting by detractors, highlighting her dependence on TikTok for income since losing her job in 2023.
