Authorities in Rarieda sub-county are in pursuit of a woman suspected of abandoning her newborn baby at Ndigwa market late on Monday night. 

The lifeless body of the infant, wrapped and concealed within a cardboard box, was discovered shortly after being left, indicating it had been abandoned immediately following birth.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, noting that it was brought to the attention of Madiany police station by Victor Otunge, the Assistant Chief of Naya sub-location. 

Otunge reported the grim discovery of the newborn's body left on the roadside within Ndigwa market, carefully concealed in the box.

Upon receiving the report, officers from Madiany Police station swiftly responded, moving the infant's body to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary. 

There, it awaits autopsy and further identification as investigations into the matter proceed. 

The primary objective now is to locate and apprehend the individual responsible for this appalling act.
