His manager, Real Jimmy, confirmed that the beloved comedian breathed his last at Mwananyamala Hospital in Dar Es Salaam while undergoing treatment.
The phrase, which translates to “hang up (the phone), I am on site,” gained immense popularity, particularly across online platforms in Kenya, where it was frequently used by users to announce their presence or arrival at social gatherings.

In the iconic video where the phrase originated, Mzee wa Mjegeje could be seen engaged in conversation on a small phone, delivering the now-famous lines, “Kata simu, kata simu, tupo site. We don’t like disturbance of the head, you understand.”
Since its emergence, the humorous phrases from the video have become staple elements in memes, while some artists have even integrated them into their songs.
Hailing from Bagamoyo in the Pwani region of Tanzania, Mzee wa Mjegeje, also known as “Raisi wa Bagamoyo,” garnered widespread recognition that transcended borders, especially in Kenya, following the viral success of his video “Kata simu, tupo site” in 2022.
Beyond his comedic pursuits, Mzee wa Mjegeje curated content on his YouTube channel, WashaTube, where he shared amusing skits, entertaining his audience with his distinctive humor.
