Alliance High School has temporarily closed following an incident involving a small section of mattresses in one of the institution's older dormitories. In a statement issued to parents on Thursday, Principal David Chomba assured them that no students were injured and that learning activities have continued uninterrupted.
The school administration has invited parents to a meeting to brief them on the incident and outline measures being taken to safeguard student welfare and maintain safety standards. Following the meeting, parents and guardians will be allowed to take their sons home for the weekend.
According to Principal Chomba, the decision is intended to give students an opportunity to spend time with their families while the school conducts internal reviews and makes necessary preparations to ensure a stable and conducive learning environment. He emphasized that the students remain safe under the school's care and that the move reflects the institution's commitment to caution and maintaining the confidence of its community.
The development comes amid a wave of unrest reported in several secondary schools across the country. Students at Nakuru Girls High School and Njoro Girls High School have also been sent home recently under circumstances that remain unclear.
The incidents have occurred just days after a tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County, on May 28, 2026. The blaze claimed the lives of 16 students who were inside a dormitory at the time. Police reported that 74 other students were hospitalized following the incident. In connection with the fire, nine girls suspected of involvement were ordered by a court in Naivasha to remain at the Nakuru Children's Remand Home for 21 days as investigations continue.
