 In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…

  • Over 7,000 Kenyans remain stranded in Lebanon due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, with ongoing plans for evacuation.

  • Only 35 Kenyans have been repatriated so far, with efforts to bring more home amid logistical challenges.

Over 7,000 Kenyans remain stranded in Lebanon as the conflict between Israel and Hamas intensifies.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi reported that out of the estimated 26,000 Kenyans in Lebanon, 7,119 have so far registered for evacuation.

"Initially, registration was slow, but as the war escalates, we've seen the numbers grow, and we expect them to increase even further," Mudavadi said.

So far, only 35 Kenyans have been repatriated. Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu mentioned that another group is expected to return over the weekend.

"We're facing numerous challenges due to the ongoing conflict, so they are returning in small batches of five or seven, depending on the availability of space," she explained.

Mudavadi urged Kenyans to avoid traveling to conflict zones, adding that plans are underway for mass evacuations from safer areas before using air transport.

"We can't estimate the cost or duration of the operation yet, but we are exploring all means to ensure the safe return of all Kenyans," he said.

This situation unfolds against the backdrop of the Kenya Kwanza Administration's push for Kenyans to seek work opportunities abroad.

PS Njogu highlighted that over 180,000 Kenyans have pursued international opportunities since the current administration took office.
