Nakuru Court Orders Arrest of Uasin Gishu Governor Bii and Former Deputy Barorot

The High Court in Nakuru has issued arrest warrants for Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and his former deputy, John Barorot, after they failed to appear in court. 

Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ndege ordered their arrest when they missed a scheduled appearance to testify in the Ksh.1 billion Finland education scholarship scandal.

In addition, the court summoned two key witnesses, Mercy Tarus and Joel Koech, to appear in the case. 

The investigation, led by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), began in 2023, probing allegations of embezzlement involving officials of the Uasin Gishu County Government.

According to the EACC, the Uasin Gishu Education Trust Fund Account was opened in May 2021, and by December 2022, Ksh.957,167,143 had been deposited into the account by parents. 

The funds were meant for a scholarship program that has now come under scrutiny.
