In the days leading up to the event, Uasin Gishu County embarked on a beautification project to prepare the city for its new status.

Trees were planted along the roads, and statues were erected at key locations, symbolizing the region's rich agricultural and sporting heritage.

On Wednesday afternoon, three statues of athletes, along with statues representing milk, wheat, and maize, were placed in prominent spots across the city.

However, the statues quickly became a subject of controversy on social media. Many Kenyans criticized the quality of the artwork, leading to widespread ridicule.

In response, county officials removed the statues late at night, relocating them to an undisclosed location. Despite this setback, the city remains poised for its historic moment.
