Martha Karua Criticizes Ruto's Governance, Narc Kenya Exits Azimio Coalition

 In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…

  • Martha Karua criticized President Ruto's government for lack of accountability and constitutional manipulation.

  • Narc Kenya exited the Azimio coalition due to recent political developments.

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has intensified her criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, citing a lack of accountability in the management of public affairs.

During a discussion hosted by the Diaspora Network Hub on Friday, Karua lamented, “The rule of law has all but been abandoned and everything has gone south.”

On her X account, Karua dismissed any possibility of working with Ruto, responding to a suggestion that she should take up the Attorney General position and champion for change with a firm "Not boarding."

In the X Space discussion, Karua criticized the convoluted interpretation of the Constitution since 2010, arguing it should be based on values rather than manipulated to fit specific individuals.

She highlighted the disregard for Chapter Six of the Constitution on integrity, pointing out that the criteria for public office qualifications have become lax since 2013.

Karua emphasized that while not everyone elected is unsuitable, the system has allowed unsuitable individuals to assume office through manipulated processes.

Karua expressed concern that Kenya is simultaneously progressing and regressing. While devolution of power is a positive step forward, the rampant corruption creating new millionaires and billionaires is a step backward, stifling opportunities for the majority.

Her remarks coincide with her recent departure from the Azimio coalition, a move announced by Narc Kenya party’s Acting Secretary General Asha Bashir in a letter to Azimio Secretariat Secretary General Junet Mohamed, dated July 25, 2024.

Bashir cited "prevailing political developments" as the reason for the party’s exit from the opposition political faction. This announcement followed President William Ruto's nomination of four members of Azimio affiliate party ODM to his Cabinet.
