John Siriba Onkendi, aged 38, and Daniel Onywere Mukua, aged 42, were arrested after being caught in the act of transporting this questionable cargo in a motor vehicle along Kyumbe-Nuu Road in Mwingi East subcounty on Tuesday.

The matter was promptly reported to the Nuu police station as a potential case of recovered suspected donkey meat. Joseph Ole Napeiyan, the Eastern regional police commander, disclosed that the suspects had encountered a hostile crowd.

According to Napeiyan, "An official reported the discovery of a suspicious motor vehicle carrying meat along Kyumbe-Nuu Road. Officers from Nuu police station swiftly responded and, upon arrival, discovered that a gray Noah vehicle had broken down on the aforementioned road. The two suspects in question were found inside the immobilized vehicle."

Napeiyan added, "The officers determined that the suspects had already been assaulted by an angry mob, with the first suspect sustaining a minor head injury but being in stable condition."

During a subsequent search, the police discovered 18 sacks of the aforementioned meat inside the vehicle, and it was noted to be in a slightly decomposed state.

The scene was properly processed, and the motor vehicle was towed to the Nuu police station, with both suspects placed in custody at the same location.

The confiscated meat was held at the police station, pending inspection by a public health officer. The authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
