Abel Mutua clarified that his comments about setting up a kiss scene on 'Tahidi High' were taken out of context, emphasizing they were about the characters, not the actors, and denied any exploitation of his position.
The controversy sparked backlash, but Mutua explained that all cast members had a sibling-like relationship, and any romantic plotlines were purely for the show's narrative.

The issue arose from a podcast episode of Mic Cheque, posted on September 6, 2023, where Mutua admitted to setting up the kiss scene between Sarah Hassan's character, Tanya, and another character.
The revelation led to a significant backlash, with allegations that Mutua exploited his position as a scriptwriter to force the scene.
Criticism mounted as viewers misinterpreted his intentions, believing he was discussing the actors rather than the characters.
In an effort to clarify his statements and dispel the controversy, Abel Mutua explained his side of the story to Ankali Ray, the chief of Umbea, on June 11.

Mutua emphasized that his comments had been taken out of context. He clarified that he was referring to the show's characters and their storylines, not the actors themselves.
Mutua elaborated that fans of 'Tahidi High' were invested in the romantic dynamics between the characters OJ, Freddie, and Tanya.
To satisfy the viewers' expectations, he wrote a script that favored the characters OJ and Tanya ending up together, rather than Freddie.
He pointed out that at the time, all the actors, including himself, were in real-life relationships and that the interactions on the show were purely professional.
He stated, "Ni hitilafu ya yule ambaye alienenza uvumi. Hakuwatch the podcast episode vizuri. It was not about Sarah Hassan, Abel Mutua, na Denis Mugo.
Ilikuwa story ya characters zao OJ, Freddie na Tanya." Mutua further emphasized the strong bond among the cast, likening their relationship to that of siblings.
He mentioned that apart from Mrs. Ngatia and Omosh, who are married in real life, there were no romantic relationships among the cast members.
Mutua lamented how the internet can distort information, leading to misunderstandings for the sake of views.
"But hiyo ndio kazi ya internet. They take things and misconstrue, wanakula views zao na tunasonga mbele," he remarked.
When Ankali Ray reached out to Sarah Hassan for her reaction, she was on set and could not engage in a lengthy conversation.
She briefly responded, "Niko set... is it possible to just text me?" before ending the call, indicating her preference for handling the matter through text at a more convenient time.
