Venue For Kelvin Kiptum's Funeral Service Changed After Strong Winds Destroy Tents

The funeral service for Kelvin Kiptum, the World Marathon record holder, has been relocated to the Chepkorio show grounds in Keiyo South following the disruption caused by strong winds at the previous venue in Chepsamo, resulting in property damage on Thursday.

Organizers cited the adverse weather conditions as the reason for the change in venue.

Photographs shared by Citizen Digital depict the aftermath of the winds, which tore down erected tents and caused damage to parked vehicles.

Notably, two cars suffered significant damage, one with a shattered windscreen and damage to the front bonnet, while the other sustained body damage.

Preparations are underway for Kiptum's burial at his farm in Naiberi. The renowned athlete tragically lost his life in a road accident on February 11, 2024, alongside his coach, Gervais Hakizimana.

The funeral is expected to be attended by prominent figures, including President William Ruto, state officials, and distinguished members of the athletics community, to bid farewell to the legendary runner.
