On Wednesday, the Kisumu County government inaugurated a digital payment system in collaboration with telecommunications giant Safaricom, aiming to address issues related to revenue collection, administration, and reporting.

The newly launched Integrated County Revenue Management System (ICRMS) is designed to facilitate various revenue services, including parking fees, markets, advertising, property rates, and approvals. Its implementation is expected to alleviate long queues at county offices.

The ICRMS will enable real-time integration with payment channels such as M-Pesa and banks, ensuring accurate reporting and transaction reconciliation.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o expressed, “We have collaborated with Safaricom to develop this platform, aiming to provide a seamless and user-friendly experience for Kisumu residents and county officials, thereby enhancing overall efficiency in revenue management.”

Cynthia Karuri-Kropac, Safaricom’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, emphasized, “The implementation of the ICRMS system in Kisumu County reflects our dedication to advancing digital transformation for efficient service delivery, making services more accessible and convenient for all. This aligns with our mission to connect, empower, and improve the lives of Kenyans.”

To ensure comprehensive support, East Africa Device Assembly Kenya Limited will supply smartphones necessary for running the revenue application used by revenue collectors. These devices will be securely managed to ensure their suitability for effective revenue collection services.
