On Monday, law enforcement initiated a search for two individuals employed by a security firm who absconded with Sh94.9 million intended for delivery to a bank in Nairobi.
The funds, sourced from a secure vault within the Industrial Area, were earmarked for transportation to a bank in the Central Business District. The incident transpired at approximately 6 am and was designated for a supermarket's weekend sales.
The two culprits, while aboard the company's vehicle, had arrived at the vault as planned but departed without police accompaniment. It was only minutes after their departure that the police escort noticed the absence of the vehicle containing the cash.
Subsequently, the vehicle was discovered abandoned in the Dafam area of South C, adjacent to the southern bypass, with both the suspects and the money conspicuously absent.
High-ranking police officers arrived at the scene and ascertained that the two fugitives had fled in another waiting vehicle. A comprehensive investigation was promptly initiated, with security personnel units mobilized to pursue the absconding duo. However, the suspects managed to elude capture and their current whereabouts remain unknown.
Authorities have indicated that this incident appears to be an inside job. Inquiries are underway, with the officers originally designated to escort the vehicle involved in the heist being subjected to questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
