The Kenyan Embassy in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has been attacked by protesters expressing anger over the ongoing conflict in the country’s eastern region. Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’oei described the attackers as marauding protesters.

The crisis in eastern DRC has escalated, with 17 people killed in heavy fighting between M23 rebels, reportedly backed by Rwanda, and Congolese government forces. 

Streets in the conflict zones are littered with bodies, while hospitals are overwhelmed by the growing number of casualties.

On January 27, 2025, President FĂ©lix Tshisekedi held a high-level meeting in Kinshasa with national leaders, including National Assembly Speaker Vital Kamerhe, to address the crisis.

The discussions focused on the deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions, as the M23 rebels gain ground in Goma and force thousands to flee their homes.

Speaker Kamerhe confirmed that President Tshisekedi plans to address the nation soon regarding the crisis. 

Meanwhile, the situation remains dire, with resistance from the army and pro-government militias offering limited relief amidst the humanitarian catastrophe.
