Car Dealer Khalif Kairo in Court Over Ksh.5 Million Fraud Allegations

 In a hurry? Here’s a quick summary…

  • Khalif Kairo, a popular car dealer, was charged with defrauding two clients of Ksh.5 million by failing to deliver imported vehicles.

  • The prosecution opposed his bail, citing a history of fraudulent schemes and the risk of him evading justice.

Popular car marketer Joseph Kairu Wambui, widely known as Khalif Kairo, was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, facing charges of defrauding two clients of Ksh.2.1 million and Ksh.2.9 million, respectively.

Court documents revealed that Kairo allegedly deceived Jeff Kyule Munane between July 10 and July 29, 2024, in Westlands, Nairobi.

His company, Kai & Karo Limited, reportedly collected Ksh.2,145,150 under the guise of importing a Honda Vezel Hybrid from Japan, a vehicle that was never delivered.

The prosecution argued that granting bail could jeopardize the judicial process, describing Kairo's actions as part of a deliberate pattern of deception.

They further asserted that Kairo's resources and alleged history of fraudulent activity increase the likelihood of him evading justice if released.

The court also heard that Kairo was apprehended on January 11, 2025, and has remained in custody since his arrest. The case has brought renewed attention to allegations of widespread fraud in the car importation industry.
