Thousands of fans gathered for the “Last Laugh” event at Carnivore grounds on Friday, June 21, honoring their late colleague Fred Omondi, a comedian from the popular Churchill Show.

The event took on a protest mood as it coincided with the arrest of Fred's brother, Eric Omondi, who had been detained while protesting against the government. Anti-government and anti-Finance Bill 2024 sentiments permeated the gathering.

The atmosphere turned tense when the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports attempted to address the crowd, only to be jeered off the stage with chants of “Ruto must go.”

Despite the interruptions, comedians performed, providing laughter and celebrating Fred Omondi's life, who had tragically passed away in a road accident on June 15.

The event was a blend of comedy, grief, and protests, with fans interacting with the performers late into the night.

Notable figures from the creative industry, including Eric Omondi, Churchill, MC Jessy, Dr. Ofweneke, Terrence Creative, and DJ Shiti, used the platform to voice their opposition to the Finance Bill 2024.

Eric Omondi issued a stern warning to President William Ruto, urging him not to sign the bill into law, stating that doing so would have irreversible consequences for the country.
