A mysterious illness has struck Mukindu Primary School in Mwingi, resulting in the tragic deaths of two students.
The first victim, a Grade Two pupil, was followed by the passing of a 13-year-old Grade Seven student a week later.
David Musili, the uncle of the deceased Grade Seven student, recounted the heartbreaking ordeal of his nephew's demise while being transported to Ishiara Level 4 Hospital.
Musili expressed frustration over the lack of operational nearby health facilities and shortages of medicine.
Confirming the outbreak, the school's headteacher, Josphat Kimotho, disclosed that multiple children exhibited similar symptoms, including severe headaches, high fevers, nosebleeds, vomiting, and yellowing of the eyes.
Kimotho expressed difficulty in identifying the disease and noted that several other students had reported experiencing these alarming symptoms.

However, he mentioned that some affected students had received treatment and resumed their normal routines at school.
Amidst growing concern, Titus Kasinga, the local MCA, urged the Kitui Health Ministry to conduct thorough investigations into the outbreak.
He emphasized the need for equipping and activating health facilities in the area to prevent further casualties.
The community anxiously awaits clarity and action from the authorities to address this urgent health crisis.
