Tragedy struck on the Katito-Kendu Bay road in Kisumu as a lorry collided with a Public Service Vehicle (PSV), resulting in the loss of five lives and leaving several others injured.
The lorry, en route to Kisumu with a load of sand, suffered a tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control and crash head-on into the matatu bound for Homa Bay.
Currently, two injured individuals are under treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu, while others are receiving care at the Nyakach sub-county hospital.
Allan Mwangi, the Nyanza Regional Traffic police boss, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway to determine the exact number of passengers involved in the tragic accident.
Authorities have initiated a thorough probe into the incident, urging motorists to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations to prevent such occurrences in the future.
