Suspect Attacks Police with Machete During Arrest Attempt in Siaya

In Siaya County, a police officer was injured while attempting to apprehend a suspect accused of sexual assault. 

The incident occurred in Rachuonyo Village when the officer and his colleagues arrived at the residence of the suspect, identified as Isaiah Otieno. 

Otieno had locked himself inside his home, and upon the officers' arrival, he emerged armed with a machete.

The suspect attacked the officer, inflicting a head injury, before attempting to flee the scene. 

In response, the officer's colleagues fired warning shots into the air, one of which struck Otieno in the thigh, immobilizing him. The suspect was subsequently overpowered and arrested by the officers.

Both the injured police officer and the suspect were taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital for treatment. Otieno's machete was confiscated as evidence in the case.

The Siaya County Police Commander, Cleti Kimaiyo, explained that the officers had identified themselves and ordered Otieno to open the door and surrender, but the suspect chose to confront them instead.
