Families In Kirinyaga Mourn Kin Killed In KDF Chopper Crash Alongside General Ogolla

Kenyans are mourning the death of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, who died in a helicopter crash on Thursday. 

Among the nine military personnel who lost their lives alongside the CDF were two individuals from Kirinyaga, whose families are also grieving their loss.

Peter Wachira Kariuki, the father of the late Sergeant Rose Nyawira from Kagio area in Mwea, expressed his sorrow at losing his daughter. 

He recounted how he last spoke to her on Sunday and had a pleasant time with her before she departed, even though it was raining heavily. "We will miss her," Kariuki said.

Martin Kinyua, Nyawira's brother, was initially in disbelief about her death but later confirmed it with their uncle. He described his sister as having a bright future as Ogolla's photographer.

In Kirimunge village, Kirinyaga Central, the family of Senior Sergeant John Kinyua Muriithi is also in mourning. 

Josphat Muriithi, the deceased's father, spoke of his pain and the difficulty of accepting his son's passing.

The helicopter carrying General Ogolla crashed in the Sindar area of Elgeyo Marakwet County around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday. 

President William Ruto expressed his deep sadness at the loss of General Ogolla and the other military personnel, leaving only two survivors from the crash.

The nine military personnel killed in the crash alongside CDF Ogolla included: 

  • Brigadier Swale Saidi

  • Colonel Duncan Keittany

  • Lieutenant Colonel David Sawe

  • Major George Benson Magondu (Pilot)

  • Captain Sora Mohamed

  • Captain Hillary Litali

  • Senior Sergeant John Kinyua Mureithi

  • Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi

  • Sergeant Rose Nyawira.
